Nurse Practitioner

Nurse practitioners are advanced practice nurses who have already specialised in different areas. When they become endorsed as nurse practitioners, they have an expanded scope of practice and additional extended privileges by legislations, such as prescribing medicines and referring patients to other health professionals or diagnostic assessments. Sydney Nursing School’s Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) Coordinator, Dr Tom Buckley, describes the programs as providing “advanced capacity, autonomous learning and clinical judgement”. The Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) builds on nurses’ specialty knowledge and develops their expanded and extended skills.
