Why Australia Needs Nurse Practitioners
Why Australia Needs Nurse Practitioners
More from my site
Nurse Practitioners make a vital contribution to health systems across the world. The United States has led the way for many decades in the promotion of the role of nurse practitioners. However, the concept remains relatively new in many parts of the world, including Australia, where the first nurse practitioner projects started in the 1990s in NSW. This advanced nursing role is an essential component of modern health systems.
This video aims to highlight the importance of nurse practitioners in Australia as well as validating and showing appreciation for the efforts of the nurses leading this development. At the last count, in October 2012, Australia had 765 nurse practitioners. This equates to one in five hundred registered nurses, however, as the video suggests, we should be aiming for a ratio of 1:50.
